Preserved peach, strawberry jam, delicate black currant notes in a juicy heavy body
Muchagara washing station is a part of the Baragwi Cooperative Society and is located near the town of Muchagara in Kirinyaga District. Founded in 1959, Muchagara is one of the oldest washing stations in Kenyaand now has over 1000 members who deliver cherry to the wet mill, and most have between 200 and 500 trees. Cherry coffee that is bought to the wet mill is pulped and fermented the same day and after 36 to 48 hours of fermentation the coffee is moved to soaking tanks. Once the coffee has been soaked it’s moved to drying beds where it dries for between 10 and 15 days.
The coffees from Muchagara are stand out with notes of tomato, lemon and blackcurrant and distinct floral characteristic really similar to some of the best Yirgacheffes.
We chose the Muchagara because we felt it was a classic Kenyan, big juicy and bright but with a bit of a twist. For us we cupped a really special delicate coffee which develops in flavour and allows for a gorgeous and complex filter.
